The proposed educational activities presented in the 1st book of the series The Smart Greenhouse in the Skills Lab are implemented through the holistic approach ST(A)M with goals:
the acquisition of fundamental knowledge about plant organisms,
the use of sensors and actuators in the construction of a smart greenhouse,
the use of the computing platform micro:bits,
code development,
familiarity with study, design, development and evaluation processes.
The acronym STAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics – Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) is used to define the concept of a holistic approach to learning through five disciplines, Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics.
Art in its various forms is becoming an important part of education STAM, as imagination and creativity form the basis for the emergence of innovation, while at the same time contributing to the development of critical thinking.
The STAM It frames the way a child's mind learns as it explores the world while contributing to the development of Computational Thinking!
We all understand that rarely does solving a problem require just one set of knowledge, such as just mathematics or just physics or chemistry. For example, imagine an architect who, in order to design complex and safe buildings, uses a combination of many sciences, such as technology, engineering, art and mathematics!
Therefore, the STEAM is the integration and inclusion of different knowledge and scientific fields.
Through the educational approach STAM Students apply natural sciences, technology, engineering, art and mathematics, aiming: either to find a solution to a real problem, or to understand natural phenomena, or to develop appropriate skills that will help them be competitive in the ever-changing job market of the 21st century.
Therefore the STEAM It contains the four elements that are recognized as fundamental to 21st century education:
Creativity, Critical Thinking, Collaboration, and Communication
Education STAM is now essential, as more than 30 professions will require knowledge STAM in the near future!
