This book is a comprehensive guide to the BBC Micro:bit microcontroller, showing how to connect it and program it using Blocks code, JavaScript and (Micro) Python. The book starts with simple applications - educational scenarios for beginners, while gradually the level of difficulty of the applications increases, resulting in more complex applications, such as remote control and displaying messages on external screens. All applications are presented step by step without requiring knowledge of electrical circuits and programming from the reader. Each thematic section lists all the required information that will be needed for the development of the applications, as well as detailed diagrams & images that the reader can follow in order to successfully complete each activity.
The book is addressed to:
a) for beginners, as well as advanced microcontroller programmers who want to get involved with the BBC Micro:bit,
b) to primary and secondary education teachers,
c) to students who are involved in educational robotics and STEM subjects without necessarily having experience in corresponding programming, electrical circuits and electronics subjects,
d) to postgraduate students and researchers who wish to engage with the BBC Micro:bit by designing their own applications - educational scenarios.
Finally, the book covers both the first version of the BBC Micro:bit, as well as the second version of the BBC Micro:bit released in 2020.
