HOW IT WORKS: Binoculars have two lenses. The light rays from the object you are looking at first pass through the large lens. This is known as the objective lens. The lens bends the light rays towards each other to create a small image of the object. The small lens, called the ocular lens, bends the light rays into your eye so that you can see the image. The image appears larger than the object, so that you can see the object magnified. The red filter removes all colors of light coming from the object, but allows red light to pass through. The focus knob changes the distance between the lenses so that you can see objects at different magnifications.
